Forgetting East Mayo

(Oldest Posts First)

It was great to see how well East Mayo clubs did in the U21 club championship. Aughamore and Bohola Moy Davitts reached the final, Kiltimagh the semis, Ballaghaderren the Quarters and Swinford won the B Final. In years gone by these clubs would be an after thought and now it has been a growing trend at their representation at County underage levels. These clubs are producing wonderful footballers, Aughamore had at least 6 players who had played for their County at last weeks County Final and What a performance scoring 5-17.

There half forward line in particular was a joy to watch Fergal Boland, Darren Duffy and Ross Egan, Add to this a target man in James Lyons son of Jimmy Lyons, David Kenny and Conor Lyons at midfield Conor Kilkenny at the back. On the day Bohola Moy Davitts weren't at the races but had important players missing at midfield and their former County minor player Conor Byrne. Still they also a few more in their ranks Darragh Ruane, Brian Heneghan, Liam Byrne and their Starman Brian Reape. Kiltimagh and Ballaghaderren are not to be forgotten, the former have TJ Byrne, Jason Forkan and Donovan Cosgrove while Ballaghaderren still have Seamus Cunniffe, Shairoze Akram after Cian Hanley departure to Aussie Rules. Elsewhere Morgan Lyon in Ballyhaunis.

It was great to see a East Mayo man getting a the County U21 Managers Job so that these young players can continue to flourish. I expect to see alot of these players in this years County panel. Can't understand why Aughamore had only on representative in last years team. Fergal Boland was overlooked at minor with Morgan Lyons but both should be involved this time. Boland was excellent in that County Final.

I see that our new manager has brought in a lot of new players, players from older county groups but i have to say it was noticeable that a lot came from North Mayo, 3 from Knockmore, 2 from Crossmolina, 1 each from Ballina and Killala. Hopefully we can see some more of these young players from East Mayo follow in Keith Higgins footsteps in the years to come.

That must be a record time for a fan to start complaining about unfair treatment by a manager

Well done Aughamore on the U21 win, no excuses from Davitts. On the day you were pinging all over the place and goals finish any team. Good luck to the new Mayo set up in the management sense, They'll need it, but sure, time will tell.

Would East Mayo consider coming in with Roscommon. We'd be delighted to have ye and ye wouldn't be forgotten. It would also make up for the part of West Roscommon that we've lost to Mayo.
