When Limerick's David Reidy received a phone call from John Kiely informing him that he wasn't part of his plans for the 2017 campaign, he could have been forgiven for thinking that was the end of his inter-county career.

Reidy had already been part of the Limerick squad for four years when the Dromin-Athlacca clubman got the news from Kiely.

His inter-county career took a twist then when he linked up with Kildare last year and played for the Lilywhites in the Christy Ring Cup.

However, as soon as the call came from Kiely to rejoin the squad, Reidy had no hesitation in saying yes and he has played his part in their run to the All-Ireland SHC final, including a crucial point in the semi-final win over Cork.

"It was disappointing but I had to take it on the chin and go away and work. I had to think of why he didn't want me and to work on those things," Reidy told the Limerick Leader.

"Mentality-wise more than hurling. It might have been the kick I needed to get back in with Limerick. He added: "When John rang me I didn't think twice about it, it was what I wanted to do and I got the call."
