Minor Championship Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Said it before 9-11-13 deserves as much coverage as 15 s side still young players and the future of football, a lot of players in the current county side played 9-11 aside and hasnt done them any harm, they shouldnt be discounted casue their club cant field at a higher side. Not too familiar with either but hopefully it's a good game annd display of ball regardless

Just another point about all this amalgamation talk and regarding the Cloone and Eslin players currently with Mohill at U16 and Minor level. When these players reach the age where they can still play Minor but are overage for U16, so they'll be 16-17-18 depending on when they were born, they will be eligible for adult and U21 football. Will they not have to fully transfer to Mohill to play Minor then as surely they can't play Senior - Inter - Junior league for Eslin and Cloone and then play Minor with Manachans? Thats robbing more young players of clubs who are struggling with players as it is. I'm NOT trying to paint Mohill as villians in this scenario, I've stated me opinions on this before but it's a concern surely?

I think if it is an amalgamation Dodgy pass as St Manachan's then there is no requirement to transfer. I agree the 9 a side final is every bit as important as a 15 a side but the rules have to be tweaked a little to make the transition from it to 15 a side smoother. Narrow the pitch considerably, shorten it and use u-12 goals as the emphasis then will be on accuracy on all fronts. Plus it will have the effect of a crowded field. Putting the goals on each teams 14 yd line and narrowing the full size pitch by 10 m from each sideline would actually replicate the amount of space available on a full size pitch for 15 a side. This is not rocket science after that the skill level is up to the players and coaches.

The usual crack pull off a perfectly good wing forward when the game is being lost at midfield and the backs and it doesn't just happen in minor football

As for a smaller pitch ya why bother calling it minor call it under12 and give them a bottle of pop and a bag of cheese and onion after the game

That'll improve the game

15 a side is Gaelic football has been since 1884 and before amalgamate or emigrate the choice is yours

If you read up on it, in the 1880's, when the GAA actually began the rules stated no less than 14 but no more than 21 so there have always been variations. small-sided training games are very beneficial if you have one solo, one hop like two-touch in soccer but in competitive games, I think it's best to play 15-a-side

Manachans centre back out and young Keith Beirne will be in Portugal. Cortina (sorry thats an old car) Gortnenagh are surely red hot favourites now

Shurely two players wouldnt make a difference with the stength in depth you have at your disposal. Isn't that beirne lad 14? hardly expect him to carry a minor amalgamation. Fenagh/gort are the better team with or without players and the difference will be seen in the replay..

There are loads of lads to fill jersies !! Take the centre half back and the free taker out of any team and it is seriously depleted. I hope its as good a game as the last day and may the best team win. Two fine teams

Minor final replay tomorrow some great footballers on both teams

Up and coming stars I we could keep them in the county and with their clubs for the next decade

Surprisingly there are no books written as of yet predicting the game

From start to finish

PRO'S
It gives us a clear head going to a game tomorrow without a book that probably doesn't know what colours either team wear

CONS
15 a side football has been played since the dawn of time
Don't fix what's not broke amalgamation is the way forward I agree with badsilage 100%

CONCLUSION
In 1884 no less than 14 and no more than 21 players could play for either team while a game was at play
This says it all about 9 aside soccer

DEFINITION
The best team will win tomorrow and 1 team will walk away with a cup and players that have county medals

Good luck tomorrow lads

First and foremost well done to Gortenagh. You are deserving minor champions having beaten drumkeerin and then Manchans. But what was management doing ? We played with two functioning forwards. The rest could have gone. One lad dosed with flu and left on. Incredible that over two hours of football only 1 sub used. (apart from injury time in drawn game). What are panels for ? A disgrace

Great game yesterday, best ive seen at minor level in awhile ! Few things i was left confused about , Nathan Conboys freekick appeal which the ref Moran clearly gave ? and Mohills Cathal Keegan only received one yellow card and was sent off ?.. Other than that was a great end to end encounter !

Now compare the 9 aside final to yesterday's final

It pays to amalgamate if the 2 teams that played in the 9 aside final got together they could be there next year

Enough said

Mohill or St Manchans wouldn't give the job of managing u21 team to the minor management. I WONDER WHY !!!!!! Hope Sean and Liam can work their magic with them.
