Flood relief measures proposed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) are threatening the future of the Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA grounds.

Plans for the works have been drawn up and if implemented, they would see the Little Arrigle River diverted right through the grounds.

The diversion would go through the pitch as well as the dressingrooms and walkway around the pitch. It would be detrimental to the grounds and would force the club to seek a new home.

Already there has been protests to the plans with local councillor David Kennedy stating that "the OPW will have to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the proposed works."

The OPW could have their work cut out in pushing their plans through as Ballyhale will not only have the whole GAA community behind them, but it is the home to some of the games greatest hurlers like Liam and Ger Fennelly, Henry Shefflin, James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick and Michael Fennelly as well as current Kilkenny stars TJ Reid, Colin Fennelly and Joey Holden.
