Now that the summer is over the Galway club hurling championship is about to start in earnest. Any opinions in how things will go, either winners or relegation, now that is a winter hurling competition (yet again!!!!)

Group A - Portumna have top spot sealed with Mullagh in 2nd. Tommies look to have 3rd wrapped up provided Athenry dont upset Portumna in the fianl game. Pearses look like there fighting relegation, They won't go down there a decent outfit this year.
Group B- Carnmore are top into the Quarter final. The last game Mellows v T.A.D will decide 2nd ad 3rd. Ardrahan are in relegation.
Group C- This is like a big heap..If Turlough beat Sarsfields they qualify in 2nd or 3rd. If Sarsfieds best

Group D- Caruaghwell won this group. the 2nd and 3rd is between Gort Loughrea and Beagh. Could be anyone. Gort vs Beagh wil be defining. Kinvara are in relagtion unless they beat Gort and Gort remain on 2 points.

enough about the galway manager! some crackin games in the senior this weekend which could see some of the so called heavyweights castlegar, clarenbridge, sarsfields or even gort plummeted into relegation battles.!!

Is there a draw once the groups are finished up or is it already known who plays who?

From the masterplan (not sure where I found it becuase it was before they revamped the gawlay website)
Top team in each group qualifies to quarter finals. Second and Third placed teams in each group qualify for preliminary quarter finals. Preliminary quarter final draws to have a second placed team playing a third placed team from a different group. • Extra time in all preliminary quarter final games. • Quarter final draw: - Group winners play Pre Quarter final winners. • Semi final draw :- to be open draw

Anyone at the games this evening, Loughrea v Craughwell and St Thomas v Clarenbridge. It would be interesting to find out how current Galway senior players and perhaps prospective seniors hurled.

Carnmore to win it? How much have you on them Charlie? Was at Bridge v St Thomas match. 2-12 0-13. Bridge very impressive first half with a good wind. Did enought in second to win by 5. Thomas did up it in second half but their full back line is woefull. Bridge qualified now for quarters or pelimery/quarters. Cashel will be playing relegation for sure. Thomas, Turlough and Sarsfields all can still qualify or end up fourth (no mans land).

was at loughrea craughwell match poor game, loughrea will be there or there abouts again this year, the funny thing about this game was i had a work colleague with me and he could not pick out the county players , apart from ger o halloran the likes of niall healy johnny coen adrian cullinane were pretty poor with the stand out players being johnny maher and johnny o loughlin and 17 year old sean sweeny who scored a monster of a point and had ex galway man fergal healy in his pocket. Still think portumna will win it out this year

Sarsfields vs Turlough and Loughrea vs Beagh should be cracking games. A win for Turlough would qualify them at St.Thomas's loss. I think they have a serious shout after beating the bridge confidence will be high. Also Sars don't need the win unless they are bothered about which positon they qualify in.
Winner of Loughrea and Beagh takes all. I think there has to be a kick in Beagh they were absolutly shocking vs Gort. Loughrea are vunerable too they dont have the strength and depth of recent years.

Group A: Qualified for quarter final: Portumna Qualified for play offs: Mullagh and either (Tommies - need to avoid defeat to pearses, Athenry - need to avoid defeat from portumna, or Pearses need to beat Tommies) No mans land: either Tommies, Athenry or Pearses depending on last group games Relegation: pearses currently.. but if Pearses beat Tommies, then Athenry are in relegation unless they get something from the portumna game..
Group B: Qualified for quarter final: Carnmore Qualified for play offs: Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry and Liam Mellows No mans land: Kiltormer Relegation: Ardrahan
Group C:... this one is messy! Qualified for quarter final: Anyone from Clarenbridge/Turlough/St Thomas/Sarsfields Qualified for play offs:Anyone from Clarenbridge/Turlough/St Thomas/Sarsfields No mans land: Turlough/St Thomas/Sarsfields Relegation: Castlegar (unless they beat Clarenbridge and turlough lose and the score difference is greater than turloughs)
Group D: Qualified for quarter final: Craughwell Qualified for play offs: Gort and whoever wins between Beagh and Loughrea No mans land: Beagh or Loughrea Relegation: Kinvara
gets the predictions in!!! Pearses to beat Tommies to send Athenry into relegation!

A pearses win wont put Athenry into relegation. It would then stand Tommies would have beaten Athenry, Athenry would have beaten Pearses (by forfeit) and Pearses will have beaten Tommies, So 3 teams on 2 points. No head to head because the results cancel eachother. No score difference becuase Peares v Athenry wasn't played so no score difference from the game. So a Pearses win at the weekend means a 3 way play off.
A Turlough win vs Sarsfields will send Clarinbridge through as winners. and qualify Sars and turlough. Thomas's in no mans land. A turlough loss will send thomas's through.
Craughwell arent in the quarters yet. They have 3/4. loughrea should they beat Beagh will also have 3/4. Loughrea have beaten Craughwell so Loughrea will tip the group on head to head.
