Why? It serves no purpose to be discreet with a virus like this imo.

And that is the correct and appropriate response. The likelihood is they will all be fine but with kids all protective measures should be taken.

I blame the Democrats, it's all a hoax to stop Donegal winning the All Ireland!! Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2739 - 01/03/2020 22:29:08 2271434 Link 1 |
It is not panicking, by all means protect the identity of a person. The HSE claims those who need to know have been informed. But it is totally illogical to close a school when the pupils in said school are in a huge GAA club in huge numbers yet offer no direction to the club. These pupils have brothers sisters and parents when you make a decision like closing a school and it is on foreign news channels at least inform the community where the school is. It is not so we can panic it is just common sense.

Hhmm doesn't look good alright. I think halting matches for 4 weeks or so may only be around the corner. As rates increase public gatherings will be the perfect vehicle for its spread.

Was foot and mouth not 2001?

You are correct, if they were considered to be at risk because they were in close contact with an person who has the virus then they should be quarantined at home and not allowed to attend training or play games for the two weeks as well. Unfortunately I would say that neither have their parents been told what quarantined at home means.

That's when it started. I can't remember whether it ran over into 2002.

Not really, Ireland were to play England in February 2001 in Landsdowne road and it was postponed due to foot and mouth. The match eventually went ahead on October 2001. It hadn't much effect on GAA only patrons had to wipe their feet on disinfecting mats outside venues.

The GAA could cancel the whole season or play to empty stadiums and put the matches that are not already involved in a TV contract on some kind of discounted Pay Per View set up to make up somewhat for all the revenue lost due to empty seats. Manchester derby and Cheltenham going ahead as normal unless the situation really escalates, what your suggesting is a slight overreaction

Have today's matches been cancelled? Thought they were on at 2? Gowran_Yank (Kilkenny) - Posts: 96 - 08/03/2020 13:02:47 2272797 Link 0 |
Guess you guys already changed the clocks forward. I've been scrambling here thinking I was missing out. Still snow on the ground & my bedroom clock still has your time as I never changed it in the fall. Too soon for changing the clocks. oh well. Better than a coronavirus cancellation.

Last Sunday in March. Maybe we won't bother putting them back - the EU is still deciding. lionofludesch (Down) - Posts: 475 - 08/03/2020 14:34:39 2272817 Link 0 |
I'm not suggesting anything I'm just saying what the GAA could do. Your point is well taken though

I think we are not to far off it happening. The events that are happening now are just going to hasten its arrival. I don't want it to happen but if there is a chance that canceling intercounty games will save the club competitions then it should be done now before its too late.
