A member of the famous St Gall's club in Belfast has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The GAA has its first confirmed coronavirus case after a member of the famous St Gall's club in Belfast tested positive for the virus.

A statement posted on the club's Facebook page revealed that a male adult member had contracted the virus while on holiday, and that all club activities have been suspended as a result.

The statement, which was released in the last hour, read: "Earlier today we learned that a member of Naomh Gall had tested positive for Covid-19. This is an adult member who recently returned from holiday, and we wish him well in his recovery.

"We have contacted the Public Health Authority, and have been advised to close the Clubhouse and undertake a deep clean.

"They are aware of the timeline of when he last attended the Clubhouse and all activities within the Club since then. As a precautionary measure we have made the decision to cancel all training and games this week.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but trust you can appreciate our duty of care to all who attend Naomh Gall. We will post an update if we receive any further guidance from the PHA."
