More power to them....if you can make that sort of cash then fair play. That said, Joe Brolly had a go at Mayo GAA for fundraising in NYC...will he have a similar article about this? Doubt it yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11236 - 08/06/2019 16:40:12 2191718 Link 9 |

Good on them. No problem at all. It's time to stop pretending that it's a amateur game, for some it is, for others it's a very lucrative career. Stop the pretending and let's make sure all county players are paid for their entertainment and sacrifice

Does anyone remember the huge fuss when the Kerry four-in-a-row team posed for a photo for an ad for Persil washing powder? The reports were that Persil paid ten thousand pounds for the use of the photo and this resulted in uproar and outrage across the country. In the end, the GAA decided that the Kerry players should not be allowed to keep a penny so as not to compromise their amateur status. Changed times! I think it was Bendix washing machines. I remember at the time saying fair play to them.

I thought some of the Mayo lads did very well for themselves on Irish TV ads over the years. Not all these Dub players will make that it will be a few and so what? Its their own gig is it not? arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4898 - 08/06/2019 17:53:14 2191751 Link 4 |

Either way there's an agent or a fixer here getting a cut too. Fair play to any player from any country for getting a few quid for this, they don't get enough for it in what could be a short career. If you can earn more in a year from the GAA then the average wage is it still a sacrifice? I'd call it a job and a career path to further employment after. Let's stop pretending every player is a slave giving up everything for the county. I know most players make very little but the top dogs do. Eh the lads aren't pocketing this money. I wish. It goes into the players fund for their holiday. As Conor Mortimer tweeted that there are lots of players in other counties getting the same and more & I would never begrudge any player anything. Remember guys, there's nothing to see here. Absolutely nothing untoward about Dublin and their finances. Just keep your heads in the sand, and your money in the GAA coffers, support your county and don't ask questions about Dublin and their finances.
