(Oldest Posts First)

I would like to take the opportunity to wish Seamus all the best for the future what a great servant he has been to Limerick hurling over the years and not just hurling but in GAA in general so glad he got that Celtic cross well deserved Seamus

Delighted that someone started this topic. Seamus has had some outstanding days in the Limerick shirt, none more so that the 2014 game against Kilkenny . Always a hugely committed, positive and driven player who could play in many positions, and a leader on the field. Best wishes on your intercounty retirement Seamus, enjoy the time with your family !

Seamus was a fantastic player in his time. Lined out literally everywhere bar the full forwards. His marking John Mullane off the pitch in the 2007 semi final a highlight in a great career.

To quote John Allen in 2013, he's too good not to play.
Pity the experiment at full back didn't work out but he's retired with dignity and an all ireland medal!!

Congrats to Seamus on his retirement, great servant to Limerick hurling and having him met him a couple of times a really sound and friendly guy as well. Great to go out on a high with a well deserved all-ireland medal in his pocket.

Fantastic player for Limerick. His hook on Ben o Connor in 2006 will always stick with me. O' Connor through on goal and Seamus with an outstanding last ditch hook was magnificent. His performance on Mullane in 07 and Tj Reid in 2014 were immense. His point from corner back against Tipperary in 2014 in injury time was another great moment. His game adjustment to play as a deep lying wing forward in 2013 and play a hugh part in winning a fantastic Munster championship that summer will not be forgotten. He was a big loss going off injured so early in that semi final defeat to clare in 2013. Would Tony Kelly have had dominated as he did with Hickey still on the field?

A great career and a great player.

Great compliment from Richie Bennis on Seamus Hickey. The highest respect. Summed him up as a player & person. Top player.

A fantastic servant to Limerick hurling. A really talented hurler but also a leader for this new for a relatively callow group. I think we will miss him for that example but it also leaves us really thin on the full back line. We definitely now need Condon to commit as we don't have any other experienced reserves with Ritchie injured.

He had his best days as a corner back but I always preferred him as a midfielder which is where he played as a minor because I always reckoned he was primarily a ball player.

I wish him well in retirement but suspect that we'll be hearing from him in the media next year as he's a very articulate speaker and there is no-one from Limerick in the TV pundit studio right now.

I think Seamus' best ever game for Limerick was the 2013 Munster Final.

Picked at wing forward but worked back all day and left space for others to run into.

A fine servant and good luck to him in the post Green & White days.

One of the greatest sportsman to ever come out of Limerick. Such a gentleman dutiful and honest.
You hurled with an unequalled passion for 11 years, the heartbeat of the Limerick panel through that era watching over the new lads complimenting our strength and depth. You instilled and inspired positive thought and showed by example. You so deserved your AI medal and were unlucky you didn't get a couple more. I remember what you said on stage at the 2014 AllStars and the stare from JJ Delaney. Seamus is a hurling man to the core and deserves all the happiness in the world. Thanks for the memories pal.
