Needs to be a manager from outside the county for it to work in my opinion who will pick the best players in the county without the politics of years before

same story different year. going to be the same as the past number of years with burt people slagging setanta and mc cools..setanta slagging burt and mc cools and mc cools slagging setanta and burt!! same old story! if these clubs dont stop their childish bickering and pull together then may aswell forget about having a senior hurling team in my opinion. we we got all the best players from every club in the county to pull together on the county team we would go very far but if its going to be the same as every other year with politics ect involved..then good luck with the county team progressing any further.

In fairness, 2011 wasn't like every other year - Donegal actually won a meaningful competition for once.

And not every club is as culpable as the other when it comes to withdrawing from the team - players from Mac Cumhaills, Burt, St Eunan's and Ballyshannon all played under Eamon Campbell when he was manager (2006-9) and they were very competitive in the Rackard Cup, which was a slightly higher standard than the Meagher Cup. Unfortunately, Eamon's tenure ended under a cloud with a farcical sit in at Croke Park over a suspesnion, which was no way to prepare for that 2009 Meagher Cup final.

All the clubs pretty much pulled together in 2010 under Andrew Wallace, but in 2011 one club - Setanta - took the hump and all but one of their eligible players failed to play for the county.

whether Setanta's withdrawal contributed to 2011 being the county's best year is moot, but either way Wallace has stepped down and won't be back this year.

It's nothing to do with club the county manager is from - there's a childishness amongst certain players who aren't their own men and do what they're told instead of doing what they know to be right. They missed out big time last year. I hope they can stand up for themselves better in 2012 and play for the county because the team is better with them in it instead of sitting in the house staring at the walls when their county teammates are playing in Croke Park.

An excellent post from B.BAP and to be honest the only sensible one I've seen on here in years. So called superstars failed to turn out for their county last year. They didnt let wallace down as he was only the man at the helm. They let their county and team mates from other years down. In turn the reaction from the players and wallace seems to have been an almighty backlash as it turned out to be one of the best years ever for Donegal hurling and a 2 finger salute to those sitting at home hoping to hear they are beat. Its no odds who the new man is this will for ever continue until certain players grow up and do the right thing i.e. turn out for their beloved county and do what they do best. HURL. The old and not so old can stick to their politics as it will never get them anywhere in terms of hurling. When will they ever wake up and see that? Surely last year was a wake up call? There is no I in team hence history was made last year without them!!!

If fairness lads, only fellas from the 3 main teams in the county are good enough to play for the County.

The manager should come from one of those clubs, simple as that.

i agree with the posts, this is a senior team and its time all the players acted like seniors and not kids..throwing tantrums because there not selected or they think they are too good!! but one thing i will disagree with, you say all the setanta players eligible turned their noses bar one, this is incorrect as i know that when andy sent his selector down to the cross it was the managment of setanta who told him where to go and the players who the selector wanted to talk to werent informed of this until a good while after!!! apart from two players who decided not to play the rest didnt know they were wanted!!

If hurling man's post is right those Setanta players should stand up and be counted and get rid of the set up out there, I know county senior team is important but does anyone know what's happening with minor manager?

Few away to Australia and good few retired after last years Lory Meagher victory. I think they are away to Liverpool some weekend to celebrate??? Will be tough to emulate last years squad anyway. Any word on new manager yet? Its getting beyond a joke at this stage!

In fairness, the squad was fine for the standard of opposition last year.

A good time to strengthen it up with some Setanta fellas for this year.

purdy ur full of it, 4 players from eunans played for donegal last year that actually won meagher. so not just the 3 main teams have good players in donegal, and what was setantas contribution to last year? michael mcgee flew the flag solo while other players fathers stopped them from playing.
to be fair to donegal there should be an out side management team with trials open for all players sent forward from there teams. the manager should have monthly team meetings with club teams managers and update to if players are coming back from injury or getting fit or even playing well.
if there is manager from setanta forget about it, would put team back 5 years.

All I'm saying is what everyone knows. The Eunans fellas, aye, great work this year for the County alright. Thanks loads. If we want to move to the next level, they wouldn't get a look in. Having a new manager from outside the county would only prove that.

Sure there are only 3 teams in the that can win anything, hopefully in a few more years, Eunans can make it four.

mccools are the only team from the "big three" that the right manager would come from, because when there is setanta manager burt boys wont play and vica versa if burt manager setanta players wont play. bring in outside boy thats what i reckon and dont forget that with the strides buncrana are making underage , in ten years they will be the team to beat.................................
