Does anybody think that The Loup will clinch the title against St. Galls tomorrow in Newry?

Opinions please.

Oh dear Orlaith? A case of the heart ruling the head there. St. Galls are the real deal, give them the respect they are due. How times change, seriously who would ever have expected the Antrim champions to beat the Derry ones by such a margin? Is it a case of St. Galls being so good, The Loup being so bad or somewhere in between? It's been a while since the Derry champions took a beating like that.

i would like to congratulate Loop for the way they conducted themselves against St. Galls. It would have been easy and maybe even tempting for them to turn their frustration into a rough house but, to their credit, they kept playing football even they knew with about 20 minutes to go that it would not be their day. I am sure they will accept that they came up against a serious team in St. Galls. Their maturity and experience, added to their class all over the field, was always going to be too much for the Loop but they showed a very sporting attitude in the match unlike one other big club from Armagh in St. Galls last final

Congratulations to St. Gall's, they were by far the better side on Sunday after a competitive enough opening twenty minutes or so. They are a really good side and they had far too much class and pace for a game but limited Loup outfit, who nonetheless deserve great credit for getting as far as the final. I have to admit that I doubted St. Gall's heart for the battle before the game to the extent that I had a substantial bet on the Loup at 5/2, which looked very decent value on Saturday but felt pretty foolish ten minutes into the second half on Sunday. Gall's matched and even exceeded the Loup's workrate and proceeded to play them off the park. Let's hope they finish the job and win the All-Ireland, they are more than good enough. Credit also to the Loup for taking their defeat like men and not disgracing themselves like some other Derry teams have in the recent past - there's no shame in losing to a top team in flying form and the Loup are to be congratulated for departing with honour and dignity intact.

100 % accurrate assessment. As before, The Loup are worthy of congratulations for the honourable way in which they dealt with their defeat. If only many other clubs and teams could do likewise. You will understand If I say I am not sorry you lost your bet!

correct but it takes a super team to beat a great team. Remember your last prediction. Not too near the 100% you mentioned

After reading Brennans comments on the main page there, you can see why An Lub got to an Ulster Final. I'm very good friends with one of the An Lub players and he stated that Brennan made them feel like the team they were in 2003, unbeatable!

The man has the power to make an ordinary player feel like a world beater and with An Lub he took a side who should have won more Championships, in my view, to win the Derry Championship pretty much the hard way, how they done in Ulster was a bonus!

Mark them down as one of the favourites for 2010, i feel it'll take a lot to beat them even without the retirees!

Interesting I talked to another senior Loup player who said Mc Elkennon wa the main reason their season turned around. It was only after Mc Elkeenon arrived that Loups changed as a team, prior to that they had been taken to the cleaners by Glenullin in the championship and lying bottom of the league

What has happened to Lavey & Bellaghy? I remember them both as very strong teams within the last 15 years. Rarely hear of them now, not even on county line ups.

Re: Blu - Lavey and Bellaghy are both going through periods of rebuilding as such. Lavey have probably now got the best club facilities in ulster, with a huge indoor training centre. They are waiting for the next generation of downeys and mc gurks to come through (rumour has theres enough to field a team at 1 underage level, god help us lol). Still alot of pressure to fall on cubs to repeat the huge success made by their fathers. Bellaghy for probably being in the top 3 parishes in terms of size are going through a lull as such by their own high standards. They have a good u16 team this year but alot of their teams recently at underage have been in the B comps (unheard of in previous years). I think though there perhaps could be a shift in power in derry at the min, Coleraine are an exellent outfit, kilrea building a good young team, Ballinderry always very strong, then the like of Glen/Slaughtneil/Magherafelt all beginning to be very strong at underage. Suppose thats wot makes Derry football so special, you really can never tell!! Hope this answers any queries!!

Alrightmate is bang on, they both are going through rebuilding phases although Lavey have the bigger rebuilding to do as they never really replaced many of that golden era of players from the early 90s and are a Div 1b (or whatever they call it) club now. With the new facilities they have they now have the perfect platform to build up to greatness again.

Bellaghy always have a couple of decent players coming through each year, and are in a healthier state that Lavey at the moment, in Div 1a have a few players on the county side and can always be deemed dangerous in the Championship.

Both have been taken over in the underage championships, but in Derry at the moment there is this fantastic cycle of great youth teams. No longer do Ballinderry walk everything, but we have a rampant Magherafelt side from a few years back, then Kilrea were the force and now Glen seem to be the team to beat in the youth levels.

They all put a great effort into the coaching of these sides, Kilrea are now a strong Senior force, Magherafelt always have been in Seniors for as long as i remember and it would be good to see them challenge more (they seem to be at a constant level compared to other teams), Glen at the moment are a poor Senior side, hopefully they can get back to where they belong, challenging at the top.

Who'll be the next doninant underage team? Who knows, that's the beauty of Derry underage at the moment, if we can stop them finding the pubs then we'd have nothing to worry about with the Senior team!!
