Cody to stick with what he has

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody is in no rush to bring back many of his players who are on an extended break following their exploits in the club championship.

Of the players from Ballyhale Shamrocks and Tullaroan who won All-Ireland club titles in January, only Martin Keoghan (Tullaroan) and Darren Mullen (Ballyhale) have been part of the Kilkenny squad for the HL1B campaign so far.

That means the likes of Joey Holden, TJ Reid, Adrian Mullen, Colin Fennelly and Padraig Walsh have yet to feature for the Cats and according to their county manager, they will not be rushed back.

“We won’t have the Shamrocks lads or Padraig Walsh involved,” Cody told the Kilkenny People ahead of this weekend’s clash against Clare.

“They need a break. They had a long year. A couple of younger players are back quicker than those who have been there for a while.”

He added: “Look between the physios, physical trainer and very much the players themselves we will see when they are ready to come back.”
