County Hurling Squad 2013

(Oldest Posts First)

Any ideas on any panel for the Senior County squad this year?

As we probably wouldn't have the Loughgiel contingent for a while we should get a look at as many players as possible and carry a big squad and when the Loughgiel players are back in the fold, pick a 30 man squad for Championship. Here is my provisional squad:

Loughgiel - DD Quinn, Martin Scullion, Johnny Campbell, Liam Watson, Eddie McCloskey, Barney McAuley, Joey Scullion, Tony McCloskey and Shea Casey.

Dunloy - Paul Shiels, Kevin Molloy, Kevin McKeague, Nigel Elliott, Sean Dowds and Paddy Doherty.

Ballycastle - Ryan McGarry, Cormac Donnelly, Neal McAuley, Paul McLernon and Dermot Donnelly.

Ruairi Og - Arron Graffin, Neil McManus, Shane McNaughton, Conor Carson and Martin Burke

Rossa - Chris McGuinness, Conor McClelland, Stephen Shannon, Michael Armstrong and Conor Rocks.

.St Johns - Barry McFall,Colm McFall and Micheal Bradley

St Galls - Karl Stewart, Kieran McGourty and CJ McGourty

Creggan - Conor McCann

Rasharkin - James O' Mullan

Ahoghill - PJ O'Connell

Sarsfields - Kevin McKernan

How could you forget players from the current intermediate champions goalgetter. Id also put Stephen Smyth and Liam Kearns in there with the other 2.

Its good to see young Conor McKinley of Dunloy in with a shout, he had a stormer against Loughgiel (marking Winker) and he has what we need in Antrim a great catcher of the ball, he reminded me of TJ Reid picking the ball out of the air. I was at the AI Final and replay this year and what struck me was the height of the lads playing, they are nearly all 6 foot plus (exceptions would be Richie Hogan - hands like shovels, Tommy Walsh - a spring like Zebedee, Andy Smith and Damien Hayes who are both fantastic workers). Is there others in Antrim missing from the list that are 6 footers and great aerial men e.g. Martin Scullion of Loughgiel is one that comes to mind?

Some squad of players there. Really surprised that Liam Kearns (Cloughmills) and Thomas McCann (Creggan) aren't listed. Also, the lad Johnston from Creggan who is on the football squad is an excellent hurler. He and Thomas McCann have great hands, something which is vital in top level hurling. For those who think that they aren't playing at a high enough standard; there are some outstanding hurlers in Div 2 and 3 and they need a chance, just like Clute in the mid 80's

Brian Kevin Molloy was the player who marked Watson for entire game not Woody. Conor McKinley marked Eddie McCloskey.
