Proposal for new hurling leagues in Antrim

(Oldest Posts First)

Now before you say it - I know that this has been discussed before and changed before also.

Below I have outlined what I think our four divisions could look like and also could each in their own right be very competitive year on year. The only way we are going to get good players coming through is for them all to have competitive hurling at club level. I know its not perfect but it could work. I have also included two Div 2 'reserve' teams in div 4 as I think it gives teams a chance to test themselves against some of the so called 'bigger' clubs albeit their seconds. This would only work with the right grading system of course! Anyway - here it is - debate and discuss but remember - I'm just trying to improve hurling in the county. By the way, all games would be played on a home and away basis giving the 3rd and 4th division teams 14 league games in a season & the 1st and 2nd division teams 18 games! Interested to hear your views!

ID PUT THE 3 DOWN TEAMS OUT OF ANTRIM HURLING ALTOGETHER HELP OUR OWN CLUBS, THINK ST GALLS WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT YOU KEEPING THEM IN DIVISION 2.

Why not a couple of Div1 reserve teams in Div 2 or 3 ?

That division 3 would be seriously tight, all them teams could beat eachother on their day. As division 4 stands its very difficult to gain promotion as proved last year when tereasa's won every game by cricket scores but lost their final game which wasnt enough

Div 1 - 12 teams

Everyone plays each other once. When this happens, Div is split in 2, with top 6 playing for league title and bottom 6 playing against relegation. When the split happens if a team plays another away from home in the 1st 11 matches and they meet again after the split, the fixture is reversed. Bottom team is relegated.

Div 2 - 12 teams

Same as Div 1 but with the exception that if Loughgiel 2 or Ruairi Og 2 finish top and there Senior team is not getting relegated, then there is no promotion or relegation between Div 1 and Div 2.

Div 3 - 8 teams

Play fixtures home and away with top team promoted and bottom team relegated.

Div 4 - 8 teams

Same as division 3 with only exception that no reserve and senior team can be in the same division!!!

I agree division one should be increased to 10 or 12 teams,it would improve the standard and POL i know us Down teams are guests in your leagues but if our clubs didnt have the higher standard of competition in Antrim it would finish us

I would agree with reserve teams going into the county leagues, ie you could split the current division 4 with the year in year out elite 3/4 teams being given competitive games against the likes of Ballycastle reserve, cushundall, lougheile, johnnies, rossa etc!

Fit in any other teams also to each league, more players get to play at "their" level the better! We have too many boys standing on the lines when they reach u18/21 where as they could be learning something from an ex first teamer playing in a seconds team in on a regular basis!

For any motions of league re-structuring to be passed and put in place for next season, there needs to be a two thirds majority when brought to county convention at the end of this season. So the ball is in our court.

Looking back at my previous post, it should be a healthy thing if the likes of lougheile or the johnnies were feilding maybe 3/4 teams in the league so long as they can do it and we dont have loads of refixes.

No hurler whether in division 1 or 4 should not want nor be deprived from hurling against the johnnies or cushundall or lougheile or rossa if they have a team the same standard as a div4 team then let them play, why is this not the case but it is in football?
