Railway Cup glory

History was made on Sunday 3rd November when Don Hyland became the first Wicklow hurler to earn a Railway Cup medal.
Hyland who has played more games in the past month than many professional players contributed to the semi-final victory of Leinster over Connaught and scored four points. He was unable to line out for the final due to a reoccurrence of a shoulder injury that he picked up in the Club championship with Castletown. After receiving his medal, the Carnew man was full of praise for the stronger members of the Leinster panel in particular and he said that he enjoyed the experience of playing with such prominent hurlers and this provided him with considerable boost in confidence.
Don in his own modest way however was not in any way overawed by the exposure of playing in such exalted company. In fact he thrived on it and very quickly realised the common ground existing among good stickmen, he included.
