Diarmuid Lyng from the St. Martin's club in Piercestown, having accepted the Allianz GAA Hurling National League Div. 2 Cup on Sunday, will lead Wexford on their hurling championship trail for 2010.

The 28 year old, former St. Peter's College, U.C.D. and Froebel College student made his debut for Wexford in 2004 in the All-Ireland Semi-Final when called upon during the game and given the onerous task of marking Seán Óg Ó hAilpín. The following year he made the starting line up against Laois, again at wing forward, marking Cahir Healy who was also making his debut.

Diarmuid, a brother of Ciarán, who lines out the Wexford Senior Footballers, captained the Wexford Senior hurlers in 2009. He played minor hurling for Wexford at midfield in 1999. He represented Wexford at U21 level overcoming Kilkenny in a thrilling Leister Final in Wexford Park in 2001 and the following year taking Leister honours again with a victory over Dublin. Diarmuid is also the holder of 2 Railway Cup medals.

On the home front, Diarmuid, better known as "Gizzy" has represented his club in almost every grade winning titles in both hurling and football with two famous wins in Senior Hurling (1999 and 2008). Teaching in an All-Irish primary school in Wexford, Diarmuid was named "Man of the Match" in the Pettitts Senior Hurling Final 2008.
