Denis Glennon is hoping that Westmeath's recent NFL Division 2 triumph is just a stepping stone to Leinster championship glory this year. The Lake County were impressive winners over an albeit understrength Dublin in the league decider two weeks ago, and will look to carry that form into Sunday's tricky championship opener against Longford at Pearse Park. Star forward Glennon said: "We used the Dublin game as a building block. It was a big morale-booster - but we are not stupid enough to get ahead of ourselves. "We realise Dublin were missing a lot of players. But we were missing David Duffy and also Dessie Dolan. "Hopefully come championship we can make a proper stand and say we are as good as them." The Tyrrellspass clubman believes Westmeath are better equipped to challenge for provincial honours this year than 12 months when a second half collapse against Longford cost them dearly. "We were a bit disorganised at the start of the year but we have a plan now and we are sticking to it. "Everyone has their own job and we are being well-training, both physically and mentally, and I suppose it is now starting to pay dividends.
