Glennon and Martin left off U21 team

March 26, 2004
Senior players Denis Glennon and Paul Martin have been surprisingly omitted from the Westmeath team to play Kildare in the Leinster under 21 football championship quarter-final on Saturday, March 27. However, another senior panellist, Donal O'Donoghue, has recovered from injury to take his place at centre back. The team will be captained by Kenny Larkin in the absence of the injured Finian Newman. Meanwhile, 17-year-old David Glennon - younger brother of Denis - has been drafted onto the Westmeath senior panel. The Tyrrellspass clubman, who isn't involved with the county under 21s, is regarded as one of the best young forwards to emerge on the local scene in recent years. Also called up to the senior panel are the St. Loman's pair Gary Glennon and Colin Whyte, who were key members of the Westmeath minor team that won a Leinster title in 2000. Westmeath (U21F v Kildare): S Gallagher; A Fennell; K Larkin, S Burke; D McDermott, D O'Donoghue, G Dillon; P Bannon, D Reynolds; P Dillon, PJ Ward, A Finnan; F Spollen, P Mulvihill, A Hickey.
