Bringing excellence to Westmeath
April 30, 2009
The Sammon Group brought its renowned excellence to Westmeath when constructing the superb new Scoil Etchen Naofa project in Kinnegad. The Kildare-headquartered company is a proven leader in its field, having completed an impressive portfolio of spectacular projects nationwide - and further afield.
Kinnegad Primary School was part of the delivery of schools in the Department of Education's Rapidly Developing Areas initiative, aimed at ensuring certainty of quality school places for 2008 and 2009 throughout Ireland. In early '08, Sammon Contracting Ltd. from Kilcock was successful in its bid to be included in the Department's Framework agreement to deliver schools under the initiative.
The Kildare company's successful bid comprised the full design and build of several schools of the highest quality, providing state-of-the-art teaching and learning space, and in strict accordance with the Department's Technical Guidance Documents.
Sammon's innovative solution integrated the latest technologies in off-site manufacture, combined with solid principles around natural lighting, passive ventilation, and robust structure and finish. All civil engineering and extensive siteworks were carried out to exacting standards by Sammon Contracting Ltd., and internally, all joinery was provided with similar precision by Miceal Sammon Woodcraft, one of Ireland's largest manufacturers of off-standard fine and general joinery.
The three Sammon schools under the framework - in Kinnegad, Drogheda and Tullamore - were each completed on site and ahead of schedule - in an amazing 15 weeks. Moreover, unlike many off-site solutions, the Sammon product offers a lifespan in excess of 50 years and all buildings boast record low airtightness - a requirement of the Department for schools of eight classrooms or more. Airtightness assists in restricting air leakage, in effect contributing to environmental control and insulation values generally. The Sammon schools incorporate beautifully finished classrooms, providing exceptional air quality
and a high level of natural lighting.
The Sammon Group has subsequently been awarded the tender to build three further 16-classroom schools in 2009 in Drogheda, Cork and Wexford. Sammon have also incorporated this approach into providing extensions and refurbishments for existing schools, which has thus far proven extremely successful and economical for the relevant Boards of Management.
The Sammon Group comprises Sammon Contracting Limited and Miceal Sammon Woodcraft Limited. Established in 1997, the Sammon Group combines the age old craftsmanship of joinery with expertise in property development, contracting and project management. This exciting combination delivers a highly-skilled and professional solution to an increasingly impressive nationwide client and project list.
Based in Kilcock, Co. Kildare with a skilled workforce, the Sammon Group uses its extensive experience and know-how to bring a tailored solution to each project. To meet the highest industry specifications and quality, the Sammon Group employs a team of carefully-selected top professionals and highly-qualified trades people including Designers, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, CAD Draughtsman, Woodcarvers, Joiners and Carpenters amongst others.
According to group founder and CEO Miceal Sammon: "The Sammon Group has its roots deeply embedded in the family construction business, stretching back over five decades. My first specialist fit-out and joinery company, established in 1986, has since grown into a leading building construction firm, with active operations in Ireland, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
"We're justly proud of our achievements, which include a wide variety of high profile public and private contracts that have been delivered within exacting timeframes to the highest possible standards.
"This commitment to quality and project delivery is part of a two-pronged philosophy on which the company was founded. The other central pillar of our business - gleaned though many years learning the trade in my own family's business - is, very simply, that the client comes first."
Throughout more than 20 years of expansion and change, the Board and employees of the Sammon Group have never wavered from this commitment to client satisfaction. The group's year-on-year growth across all areas of the business is testament to its success.
Sammon's joinery business is one of the largest off-standard workshops in Ireland. Its premium product can be seen in the interiors of Government Buildings and the boardrooms of blue-chip companies worldwide.
From its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant and corporate headquarters in Kilcock, the Board of the Sammon Group will implement its most ambitious strategy to date - and one which should establish the Group as the pre-eminent global provider of social infrastructure. As part of this strategy - and in a bid to strengthen the Sammon brand throughout Europe and the Middle East - they recently established Sammon VG, a joint venture arrangement in the Middle East that will become the largest provider of school accommodation in the region.
Miceal continues: "This is an exciting new departure for our Group, and one that will be buoyed by a highly-skilled and dedicated workforce - some of whom have been with us since the company's inception. This team includes highly-qualified and motivated professionals in Construction, School Design, Business Development and Finance. In addition, the experience and knowledge of our directors and senior staff ensures that we can deliver an innovative 'Total Building Solution' for each of our clients, with a focus on excellence and attention to detail on every project.
"Looking after the safety of this team is a responsibility that our Group takes very seriously. We are committed to the highest possible standards of safety on all our sites, and operate to international standards of health and safety in all geographical locations. We also provide continuous training to all staff to ensure only the most modern, efficient and environmentally sustainable practices are followed.
"The past decade has been an exciting time for the Sammon Group, and the next looks to be equally so. We continue to seek new partners who share our Group's vision and who will contribute to our continued growth and prosperity."
