Hogan stand Previews Saturday May 3rd 1.00pm Senior Hurling 7 a side Competition New York will host a seven a side competition this Saturday with eight teams involved. Boston is sending Fr Toms, Galway, Wexford and Cork while New York will counter with Galway, Tipperary, New Jersey/Kilkenny and County Champions Offaly. The event gets under way at 1 pm with divisional games followed by semi finals and final in the late afternoon. It promises to be an outstanding day of hurling with players of the caliber of Dave Simms the reigning NY player of the year, and perennial all stars Matt Mitchell, Ritchie Gaule, John Madden, and Kieran Bergin on show. The form book would say that Offaly will start as favorites; Mark Comerford who has Offaly training in Van Cortland will certainly relish the prospect of adding to the trophy case for the Faithful. Phil Wickham, Colin White, with Gaule and Mitchell are a superb nucleus. Tipp will look to superstar Bergin, Dave Loughnane and Michael Maher. The early favorite for top scorer would surely be Bergin but a dark horse in that race would certainly be Roy Henley from NJK. Along side Thomas Maher and Declan Hogan they will not be a push over. The Maroon of Galway will be seen on two squads, Dave Simms, John Kennedy, and a possible return of Finbarr Flood will add to the mix of new comers for the NY side. The debut of the club scene in NY hurling this year, too hard to predict a winner in these type of competitions but look for Wexford , Offaly, Tipp and NJK at the semi stages.
