Atlanta Clan na nGael GAA club hosted their inaugural kick-off day on Saturday February 9th to commence the 2013 season. The day began with the launch of a Spring Co-Ed hurling league to encourage skills development for both men and women who are new to hurling. Using non-contact rules, each team has a mix of male and female players with extra points awarded for points/goals scored by women. The league will run over five weeks each Saturday at 2pm in Northwood Elementary School in Roswell finishing on Saturday March 9th. A party for club members, kindly hosted by Ri-Rá Irish pub in Atlanta, concluded a great start to the 2013 season.
Since it was founded in 1996, Atlanta Clan na nGael has been instrumental in promoting Gaelic games and Irish culture in the southeast of the United States. The club fields four adult teams for both men and women in Gaelic football and hurling. The Atlanta Peach Cup 7-a-side Gaelic football and hurling tournament, which is the highlight of the season in the southeast, will take place in the Georgia Soccer Complex on Saturday June 1st where teams from across the United States will visit Atlanta to compete in this prestigious tournament. Upcoming games against Charlotte, Raleigh and Greenville amongst others are also planned ahead of the culmination of the season at the North America Gaelic Games Finals over Labour Day weekend in Cleveland.
Atlanta Clan na nGael are currently recruiting new members and players for the upcoming 2013 season. Players across all codes including beginners are most welcome.
