Canadian County Board's Annual Convention

The Gaelic Athletic Association's Canadian County Board's Annual Convention was a very well attended meetingon Sunday, February21 in Ajax, Ontario at the Ajax Convention Centre. In five provinces of Canada are 11 cities with 15 affiliated GAA clubs. Going from West to East (7,349 km in total) one finds British Columbia's Vancouver Harps; Alberta's Calgary Chieftains, Red Deer Eire Ogs (Mens), Edmonton Wolfe Tones; Ontario's Toronto St. Mikes, St. Pats (Mens), St. Vincents (Mens), Gaels (Mens), Durham Robert Emmets, Brampton Roger Casements, Michael Cusacks (Ladies), Ottawa Gaels, Quebec's Montreal Shamrocks, Quebec City's Les Patriotes and Newfoundland/Labrador's St. Johns. There were a full complement of voting delegates and observers from across the countryin attendance.At theconventionwere special guests of honourfrom the Ulster Council GAA- Chairman Tom Daly and Secretary Danny Murphy. Both gave encouragingand informative addresses to the attendees. A motion that got the most debate wastochangea Canadian County Board Bye Law that states a maximum ofseven sanctioned players with any club be increasedto10. The motionfailed to get thetwo/thirds majority and was defeated. Chairman Brian Farmer (Toronto-Durham Robert Emmets) was re-elected for a three year termalong with Vice-Chairman Jarlath Connaughton (Ottawa - Gaels), Treasurer Eddie Mangan (Toronto-Durham Robert Emmets), Secretary John O'Flynn (Vancouver ñ Harps), and Lorraine Morley (Toronto -Michael Cusacks Ladies GFC) as the Development Officer. -- John O'Flynn R˙naÌ - Canadian County Board
