Stanford opened this year's Northern California College Hurling Championship campaign in determined fashion on Saturday and cruised to a comprehensive half time lead at Páirc na nGael.

However, their cross-bay rivals came out with all guns blazing in the second half by scoring four goals and taking advantage of their superior numbers to romp home to a 4-9 (21) to 3-4 (13) win at the end of an epic battle.
