Cooney happy to accommodate Exiles

GAA president Christy Cooney is in favour of New York continuing their participation in the Connacht SFC. Despite the huge costs involved in sending teams to the Big Apple, Cooney stressed there will be a place for the Exiles in the Connacht SFC as long as they want it. "As long as New York want to play in the championship and they are up to playing in it, we will support that because this is very important," he said. "We have a lot more people emigrating at the moment. We want to give them the opportunity of being part of our Association, being part of a big event like Mayo and New York last weekend. "I believe that there were a lot of Mayo jerseys at the game and a big crowd in the region of 3,500. That's good. "If it helps the ex-pats to have a good day out and also gives them the opportunity to meet some of the great players that play inter-county football in this country, we will continue to make it happen."
