Rules are all about "promoting skill" - O'Neill

January 29, 2009
The chairman of the Disciplinary Task Force, Liam O'Neill, says that the new experimental rules are ultimately designed to promote skill in our games. Speaking at a media presentation in Croke Park on Wednesday, O'Neill explained: "We don't care about the number of cards. It's far more important to us that the fouls are punished. "It's the start of the league this weekend and if there are 60 fouls that warrant yellow cards, then we want to see 60 yellow cards. "This is an exercise in promoting skill and the spectacle that is gaelic games. "We're looking forward to the league campaigns now. We have had support from the stakeholders in this, like the players, managers and referees. There are more scores and the ball is in play longer."
