Cooney says Association will not turn blind eye to indiscipline

February 16, 2010
GAA President Christy Cooney says that wherever and whenever the Association identifies incidences of indiscipline, the appropriate penalties will be dished out.

Despite criticism from Tyrone boss Mickey Harte about trial by t.v, Cooney believes that Croke Park's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) will continue to view footage of games going forward if necessary.

"Let's call a spade a spade," Cooney stated. "If players misbehave the onus is on the Association to deal with that.

"There are incidents spotted (by tv cameras) that the referee hasn't seen or that the referee has made a call on and needs to review.

"The CCCC took a decision to charge the people involved (in the Tyrone-Derry NFL game) within the appropriate rules but it is not our intention to just go hunting after players.

"We will review evidence on an ongoing basis and, when it is appropriate, it will be done."
