Donegal set deadline

Saturday, August 26th is the deadline date for clubs to nominate or applicants to apply for the Donegal senior football manager's post.

Speculation has increased in recent days as to who will replace Rory Gallagher at the helm with names such as Declan Bonner and Gary McDaid from within the county being mentioned, while former Down and Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath and current Wexford boss Seamus McEnaney have also been touted for the position.

However, due process will begin once the deadline passes and Donegal PRO Ed Byrne revealed to the Donegal Democrat that the county board will follow the proper procedures.

"The important thing is that they are with the county secretary by 6pm on the closing date," stressed Byrne. "The executive will then meet on Thursday, August 31st to review the applications/nominations and decide on the selection process.

"This normally entails setting up a special committee to conduct intereviews and bring back their selection for the position to the executive. The selection committee is usually made up of the three main officers and two independent members not necessarily from the county committee.

"And at the end of all that the final piece is to bring a name before the county committee for final approval."
