Three first-half goals helped Galway register a vital 3-16 to 1-19 victory over Tipperary at Salthill.

The result plunges the Premier County - who have now lost three successive league matches - deeper into relegation danger.

There was little or nothing between the sides in the opening quarter but Niall Healy's goal saw the Tribesmen assume a 1-7 to 0-6 lead after 20 minutes.

Conor Cooney added the second Galway goal from a penalty and Johnny Glynn fired their third three-pointer a few minutes later as the home team took a commanding 3-8 to 0-9 advantage into the break.

The winners reeled off three quick points upon the restart to tighten their grip on proceedings but their Munster rivals refused to role over and the impressive Seamus Callanan's late goal for Tipp - after the hosts had Iarla Tannian sent off for a second yellow card seven minutes from time - set up a grandstand finale.

Callanan finished the game with 1-11 to his name but Anthony Cunningham's charges held on to claim their second win of the campaign.
