Sligo IT 3-9 UCD 1-7 Despite fielding a star studded side, UCD were no match for defending Sigerson Cup holders Sligo IT in their quarterfinal clash at Belfield on Thursday, February 17th. Sligo could not have got off to a better start when they scored two goals in the opening as Mayo star Michael Moyles and Ronan O'Connor found the net. UCD had a number of inter county stars in their side but the likes of Westmeath's Donal O'Donoghue, Offaly full back Conor Evans and team mate Niall McNamee along with the Dublin duo of Paul Griffin and Liam Og O'hEineachain could do little to stop the Connacht side making it through to the last four. Sligo lead by 2-5 to 0-5 at half time as the Mayo trio of Moyles, Alan Costello and Andy Moran and Donegal's Christy Toye were exceptional for the eventual winners. Costello scored the third goal to end the match as a contest and although UCD pulled one back through Dara O'hAnnaidh, it is the defending champions who will face UCC in next week's semi final.
