David Kelly is hoping Sligo can turn last season's heartbreak into silverware on Sunday.

The ace forward cut a disconsolate figure after his late missed penalty cost the Yeats County a famous championship victory over Kerry 12 months ago, but he insists that they have absorbed those lessons and now have their sights set on lifting the Nestor Cup on Sunday.

"We have stepped up from last year, but we need to keep that going," he said ahead of the Roscommon clash.

"We're not a serious team yet. We have had some good performances, but we didn't win anything, it's all about winning.

"We took a lot of confidence from last year and learned a lot. This year we put that to good use, we're learning as we're winning."

Kelly was Sligo's star performer in the Connacht SFC wins over Mayo and Galway, and is clearly enjoying his football.

"It's been brilliant. I've got on the scoresheet a good bit so it's pleasing in that way. The team is playing awful well.

"It's making it kind of easier for me inside. The lads are flying and it gives you a lot of confidence when there's good ball coming in to you." Tweet
