Roscommon past U21 side to be honoured
July 10, 2008
The Roscommon Under 21 side that won the All-Ireland Championship in 1978 are set to be honoured this Sunday at Castlebar as special guests after Roscommon and Mayo play out the Connacht MFC decider at McHale Park.
The former players are set to be presented to those in attendance after the provincial final and then honoured at recognition at the TF Hotel to acknowledge the 30th anniversary of their triumph against Kerry at Dr Hyde Park.
The team that day was captained by Seamus Hayden, while Gerry Fitzmaurice, Peter Dolan, Gerry Emmet and Tony McManus all lined-out for the Rossies. It was Fitzmaurice's heroic goal that proved decisive in stopping Kerry from achieving four all Ireland titles in a row in the grade.
