'We'll give Christy Ring a good rattle' - Connaughton

August 16, 2007
Roscommon senior hurling captain Mervyn Connaughton believes that on the back of his side's recent Nicky Rackhard Cup success, the Rossies will be able to compete with the top sides in next years Christy Ring Cup. Roscommon edged out Armagh with a magnificent second half performance to claim the silverware last weekend and Connaughton believes that the success will give his side the confidence booster they require entering the second tier hurling competition next year. "There is no reason why this team cant do well in 2008 if we can keep this group of guys together and if things are run as professionally as they've been run this year, there is no reason why we couldn't have a rattle at it but it's a big step up to the Christy Ring. "It is not something that we wouldn't be capable of doing if we put the effort in. The Under 21's are a prime example. If you keep them young fella's hurling and bring a few more together, I think we'll definitely have a rattle at it next year," Connaughton said.
