Shine is new Development Officer
December 17, 2004
Donie Shine is the new Roscommon Development Officer after he defeated the outgoing Joe Murphy by 54 votes to 44 at the annual convention on Saturday, December 11.
There were three nominations for the two delegates to Connacht Council. Outgoing officers Mick Rock and John McGowan were joined by Enda Beirne. However, it was a case of "as you were" as both Rock and McGowan were re-elected.
The election for Central Council delegate didn't take place as Tom Mullaney withdrew from the race which left Phonsie Tully unopposed.
Meanwhile, the seven surviving members from Roscommon's All-Ireland winning teams of 1943/44 were honoured at convention.
Team captain Jimmy Murray, John Joe Nerney and Dr Hugh Gibbons were present on the evening and were presented with beautiful mementos made from bog oak to mark the occasion.
County board chairman Stpehen Banahan said: "They have shown great example over the years and maybe it's an omen that three of them are with us this evening."
