Roscommon joint-manager Kevin McStay has had to come out and defend their team selection in the wake of their defeat to Clare.

The Rossies campaign came to an end last weekend as the Munster side came away from Salthill with a comfortable win.

And McStay revealed that their supporters were calling for the likes of Diarmuid Murtagh and Kevin Higgins to start, but the Mayo native feels that they were justified in not starting the duo who have both being out injured for some time.

"Everyone was screaming for Diarmuid to be on. Diarmuid's for is not what we'd want it to be. You saw Kevin Higgins coming on; he hasn't played football for a long time," McStay stressed to the Roscommon Herald.

"I'm only defending those players, at the end of the day we put them on. I want people to be sympathetic to their plight. They've been great to get themselves fit at all."
