All too easy for DCU
February 17, 2011
DCU 2-14
St Mary's College Belfast 1-5
Ten different players scored for DCU as the Sigerson Cup holders strolled into the last eight on Thursday afternoon.
With Donie Shine absent through injury and Michael Murphy's only scores coming from placed balls, St Mary's might have fancied their chances of an upset at the north Dublin college.
But that never looked likely as the defending champions dominated throughout to run out 12-point winners on the day.
Laois and Ireland International Rules man Colm Begley pushed his side five points clear with a first half goal and there were eight in it at the break (1-8 to 0-3).
DCU never let up after the interval, with Paul Flynn of Dublin and Sligo's David Kelly on scoring form, the second goal coming from the latter.
Peter Harte scored a penalty for St Mary's while both sides were reduced to 14 men with DCU's David O'Gara and Ruairi Keenan of St Mary's sent off in the second half.
