Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-8

This was a fast paced match between two teams striving to take the next step to reach the knock out stages of the c/ship. Both teams, with supporting runners, worked the ball well but Bective had the better of the exchanges in front of goal and held on for a 3 point win. 

Bective opened the scoring with a fine point from influential midfielder Ciaran Mc Connell on 4 minutes but Donaghmore/Ashbourne struck a well worked goal to the net on 7 minutes. The sides exchanged pointed free kicks before Bective capitalised on their higher possession percentage with 2 points from Marty Mulhall and 1 from Mark O'Brien on 17minutes. Donaghmore/Ashbourne fought back well with 3 long range pointed frees before Paul Mc Cabe pointed from a placed ball on 30 minutes to conclude the first half scoring. Bective 0-6, Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-4.

Bective started the second half with renewed vigour and attacked at pace. Paul Mc Cabe pointed from a free kick before a well placed diagonal ball reached Mark O'Brien who rounded his marker and blasted to the net on 3 minutes. Cathal Mc Connell fired a point from play and Donaghmore/Ashbourne responded with a pointed free kick on 6 minutes and a point from play on 9 minutes, and 2 more pointed frees on 15 minutes to level the game. The Bective men, with recent experience of dog fight games in the league final and replay, responded well to the increased pressure and Mulhall fired over from play. A pointed free from Mc Cabe on 23 minutes put 2 points between the teams and the supporters were treated to a very tense final 10 minutes with Donaghmore/Ashbourne looking for scores and Bective defence holding strong. Some robust Donaghmore/Ashbourne tackling away from play resulted in a black card and a sending off. Mulhall completed the scoring on 32 minutes with a pointed free and brought relief to the Bective camp, and concluded a good performance from the Bective men who are maturing into Intermediate football. This was recognised as going to be a tough group to advance from and is still "all to play for" in the final round of matches in 2 weeks time with 5 teams still in contention.

Donaghmore Ashbourne Report

Donaghmore Ashbourne and Bective clashed in this IFC 4^th round tie in Ratoath on Saturday evening and Bective emerged victorious after  an eventful match.

Bective got off the mark first with a point but Don Ash responded with a goal from John Broderick. Bective then went on the attack and scored 4 more points in the first 20 minutes to Eric Callaghan's excellently struck '45'. Don Ash responded with two frees and a well taken point from Martin Lynch before Bective closed out the half with a free to leave the match tight at half time, 1-04 to 0-06.

The intermittent rain made the surface greasy and both teams were affected. Bective introduced Cathal McConnell and he made an immediate impact with his pace earning his side a scorable free which was duly converted. Bective attacked again and scored a goal and another point before Faolan Smith converted a free from Don Ash. Ciaran Ellis then pointed off the right hand side and another two frees was converted by Smith to level the game. Bective pointed from play before Rory O'Connor was harshly black carded 5 minutes from the end for a clash with a Bective player. Bective pointed from the resultant free and had the momentum. They pointed again to put 3 points between the sides and held out for the win despite sustained attacks by Don Ash on the Bective goal. A disappointing end to the match was made worse when Ciaran O'Sullivan was sent off after a heated claim for a late '45'. Final Score 1-11 to 1.08.
