Simonstown's SFC hopes died after they missed numerous chances to claim the win they needed as their match with Blackhall Gaels finished all square at Walterstown. Blackhall Gaels 1-10 Simonstown Gaels 0-13 Simonstown were slow into stride but Shane O'Rourke registered three first half points to keep Simonstown in contention as they trailed by 0-5 to 1-5 at the break. O'Rourke was again on target early in the second half scoring two points and leading the Simonstown comeback. Referee Joey Curley awarded Simonstown a penalty following a foul on Seamus Kenny after 16 minutes of the second half, but Wayne McCarthy's spot kick was saved. Indiscipline hurt the Navan side as Blackhall Gaels only scored 1-1 from play with the remaining nine points coming from frees, a number of which were moved closer to goals for dissent. Sean Tobin leveled the game with a point with a couple of minutes to go but Simonstown could not make their possession count and missed a number of chances which would have put them through to a quarter-final. Niall McMahon and Michael O'Rourke played well for Simonstown in the backs, while Paul Meade impressed at midfield.
