Cortown put down a marker
June 22, 2008
Johnny Henry and his Cortown charges had a good win over Na Fianna who are managed by his brother Kit
Three goals were crucial as Cortown beat yable toppers Na Fianna in this IFC clash in Dunderry.
Cortown 3-4
Na Fianna 1-8
The first half was played in the most appalling weather conditions with heavy downpours, thunder and lightning and fading daylight making conditions very difficult for both sides. However it was the Na Fianna lads that played the better football in this half but the concession of two goals left the half time scoreline of 1-5 to 2-1 in favour of Na Fianna, with Gordon Codd grabbing one of the winner's majors.
In the second half the sun appeared and the winners were favoured by a slight breeze. Cortwon defended in depth and while Na Fianna tried hard they were unable to overcome a strong Cortown side and finished two points behind.
