Dunboyne set a blistering early pace in Group B of the Commons Hardware SFC with an emphatic win over a poor Walterstown side at sunny Dunshaughlin on Sunday afternoon.
Dunboyne ........ 2-15
Walterstown ....... 0-5
From the start the outcome was never in doubt and having led by 0-7 to 0-4 after a pedestrian opening-half, Declan Mahon's men burned off the the feeble 'Blacks' with 2-6 without reply within 12 minutes of the resumption.
Stephen Moran netted the first goal in the 39^th minute following a soccer style dribble by impressive wing-back Conor O'Donoghue.
Substitute Michael Dunne fired home the second goal three minutes later after Nigel Crawford, Sean McGarrell and Moran did the spade work. That left it 2-13 to 0-4 and with a 'derby' encounter against Blackhall Gaels to come next weekend Dunboyne eased up.
A pointed free from full-forward Ronan Barry in the 51st minute was all Walterstown could muster in the second period and on this showing will struggle in their remaining group games.
Granted they lined out without Charles McCarthy, Paddy Reynolds and Gareth McGuinness but it is hard to see them giving Simonstown much of a test when the north Navan side have their first outing next weekend.
With Moran leading the way Dunboyne had four points without reply chalked up within 12 minutes, the final one of that quartet being an excellent effort from the impressive Craig Berrigan.
By that stage Dunboyne also had lost target man Gerry Gallagher with a shoulder injury. His replacement Michael Dunne acquited himself well but the bar wasn't set that high.
By the 23rd minute the margin was up to four points, 0-6 to 0-2, but a brief Walterstown rally yielded a brace of points from Ronan Barry (one free). But that was a good as it got for Brendan Murray's men.
Moran landed a free from out on the right in first-half stoppage time and within 25 seconds of the restart that aforementioned procession of Dunboyne scores began with a point from Dunne.
