Goals vital as Seneschalstown progress
September 25, 2007
Seneschalstown's Joe Sheridan
Led by the in-form Joe Sheridan, Seneschalstown disposed of a disjointed Summerhill outfit to reach the semi-final stage of the Commons Hardware SFC.
Seneschalstown 2-11
Summerhill 0-11
Goals proved to be the difference between the two sides on Sunday and Seneschalstown had their first within three minutes of play. The dangerous Joe Sheridan rifled the ball to the roof of the net after some good work from Mark Carey.
This gave them the lead after Brian Ennis pointed twice for the Hill. Seneschalstown strode into a five point lead soon after with two from Brian Sheridan and some excellent scores from the energetic Brian Clarke.
Robert Ruddy and Damien Sheridan controlled the midfield in the first half and it remained a problem area for Summerhill throughout the 60 minutes.
The pre-match favourites clawed their way back into the match with scores from Paul Rispin and Paul Larkin to leave them trailing by a goal (1-6 to 0-6) at the break.
The games turning point came twelve minutes into the second half as Seneschalstown net-minder David Lyons pushed Rory Donnelly's shot over the bar.
Within three minutes of the save Seneschalstown had their second goal when Dave Byrne netted after an intelligent lay-off from Joe Sheridan. What could have been a draw match turned into a five point lead for Damien Sheridan's men.
Although Stephen Kennedy and Willie Milner tried to change the flow of the game their efforts were in vain as a strong and impressive Seneschalstown defence held out to advance to the semi-final.
