Simonstown down dismal Ballinlough

August 26, 2007

Shane O'Neill impressed for Simonstown on the 40.
Simonstown recorded their second win in this year's championship when they had too much power for a very limited Ballinlough side to handle at Athboy. Simonstown 0-14 Ballinlough 1-2 Simonstown were match favourites going into the game and it was a game they never looked like loosing. They lead 0-8 to 0-1 at half-time and were always in cruise control. Paul Meade and Seamus Kenny dominated midfield and Hank Traynor, Niall McMahon and the impressive Shane Carr played well in defence. In attack Wayne McCarthy was once again in top form. He scored a total of 0-8, six from frees, and if any Simonstown player was fouled from the 45 metre line in, McCarthy was there to punish. Shane O'Neill was also impressive at centre-forward scoring 0-3 from play. Ballinlough only had one point from play in the first half thanks to county star Peader Byrne. They started the second half brightly scoring 1-1, the goal coming from a mistake by the Simonstown keeper Mark Gaffney. But that was as good as it got for the north Meath men, who look in real relegation trouble. Simonstown - M. Gaffney, C. Kenny, H. Traynor, N. McMahon, E. Donoughue, C. McNulty, S. Carr, S. Kenny, P.
