Trim into last eight

Trim senior footballers secured a well earned victory over Skryne in Navan to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the SFC. Trim 0-11 Skryne 0-6 Trim started the game well and, with points from Paul Gilsenan, Derek Donohue, Sean Murphy, Ronan Fitzsimons and Eoin McGrath, took a five points lead before the Tara men registered their first score. However, with Trevor Giles prominent, Skryne posed a number of problems for the Trim rearguard for the remainder of the half and were unlucky when a shot rebounded off the upright and shortly afterwards Trim had to depend on Brendan Murphy to save another goal attempt. Half time score was Trim 0-7 Skryne 0-3. Trim effectively sealed the tie with three more unanswered points early in the second half, two of which were scored by Derek Donohue from play. The first followed a good move involving Darren Fay. Donohue hit another to leave Trim leading by 11 points to 0-4. In the closing stages Skryne hit two unanswered points but they always needed a goal to win. Best for Trim were Brendan Murphy, Joe Tighe, Derek Donohue and Maudi Power. Trim - B. Murphy; A. Fay, J.
