Sheridan hits late Moynalvey winner

April 19, 2006
Cathal Sheridan pointed a free with time up to give Moynalvey an undeserved victory over St. Vincent's in the first round of the JFC A on Tuesday night in Ratoath. Moynalvey 0-7 St. Vincent's 1-3 Terrible conditions lead to a dour contest that hung in the balance right to the final whistle. Moynalvey started brightest with Sheridan firing them into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead after fifteen minutes and it should have been more with chances for goals and points missed. However, from the time a speculative shot beat Ollie Regan in the Moynalvey goals Vincent's looked the more likely winners. They played with more direction but struggled to get scores, Regan denying them with a wonderful fingertip save, and trailed by 0-5 to 1-1 at the break. As the weather deteriorated in the second half so did the standard as reflected by the teams sharing a paltry four points between them. Ciaran Collins, Moynalvey's best player on the night, scored to level matters midway through the second half but it was not until the last minute that they eventually took the lead. Cathal Sheridan stood over a free from a tight angle in the right corner and done what he does best by stroking over the free. Best for the winners were Robbie Kiernan, Padraig Donoghue, Brian Conneely, Collins and Sheridan. Moynalvey have a lot of improvement to find if they are to have a say in the destination of the JFC. Moynalvey: O. Regan, P. Conneely, P. Donoghue, R. Kiernan, D. Donoghue, S. Donoghue, D. Durkan, B. Dixon, B. Conneely, D. Dixon, W. Byrne (0-1), J. Donoghue, P.J. Walsh, C. Collins (0-1), C. Sheridan (0-5).
