Champs open with win but still need to improve

Keegan Cup holders Dunboyne got their title defence off to a winning start
when playing some superb football at times against Walterstown at Dunsany.
Though the ease with which 'The Blacks' created scoring opportunites after
the resumption is bound to be a cause for some concern.
The foundations for the win were most certainly laid in the first half as
goals from Denis Gallagher Sean McGarrell and Stephen Moran left the holders
clear by 3-06 to 0-07 at the interval.
Moran was the best forward on view during the hour and in the end turned out
to be the match winner.
Charlie McCarthy did give Ian Kearney's charges the ideal start to the
second half when bursting through and blasting to the net.
Although he set up another goal for a colleague shortly after, it didn't
have as big an impact because in between times the county panelist had to
retire injured.
Then a Walterstown defender gave away a needless free for overplaying the
ball, from which the ball found its way to Moran and the in form forward
made no mistake when drilling low under replacement custodian Alban Crosbie
for his second 'major'.
Further scores from Moran, Tommy O'Connor, Denis Gallagher, Ger Robinson and
the best score of the game from Padhraig Byrne left Dunboyne in a position
in which they wouldn't be caught but something which the may be concerned
about will be the ease at which the opposition got in for goals and the fact
that nine of their ten points came from Ronan Barry frees.
