Syddan put Ballivor out
August 16, 2005
Syddan progressed to the semi-finals of the IFC where they will now meet neighbours Nobber, the home club of Shane McEntee who led Syddan to intermediate success in 1999.
Syddan 0-11
Ballivor 1-4
Syddan played with the breeze in the first half and got off to a good start with a hat trick of points from wing forward Ian Curran. But theu were unconvincing there after and went in at the break the wrong side of a one point deficit, 0-5 to 1-3. Ballivor could have been leading by even more but luckily for Syddan the Ballivor forwards didn't have their shooting boots on.
The tide began to turn in Syddan's favour in the second half when they went a point ahead, 0-7 to Ballivor's 1-3.
This would have been short lived only for goalkeeper James Sheehy's penalty save from his opposite number. With their tails up Syddan began to pull away from the opposition with Shay Duff and Trevor Gilsenan coming into their own.
Things could have turned again in Ballivor's favour but lady luck was certainly not on their side with Martin Doran hitting both posts on separate occasions, as they scored just one point in the second half.
