Simonstown kept their championship hopes alive when getting the better of St Patrick's in Ratoath on Sunday, August 7. Simonstown 1-11 St Patrick's 1-8 It was very much a do-or-die scenario for Colm O'Rourke's charges entering the tie and after a slow start they responded accordingly with full-forward Robbie Boyle starting the ball rolling with a goal in the 19th minute following good work by Ned Kearney. This was the team in sky blue's first score of the game and arrived 5 minutes after John Lunney failed to convert a penalty. 1-4 to 0-3 was the half-time score. That advantage was extended at the start of the second half courtesy of points from Boyle (2) and Lunney but the Hank Traynor captained outfit had to endure an anxious finale when St Pats goaled eight minute from time to leave just one score - three points - between the sides. The defensive unit managed to weather the storm and next up is Skryne this coming weekend - a repeat of last October's Keegan Cup decider.
