FL Div 2: First points for Ballinlough

June 24, 2017

Curraha's Andrew Coyle

Curraha 1-07 Ballinlough 1-13

Ballinlough got their first points of this year's Division 2 AFL thanks to a commanding display over Curraha with the wet conditions suiting the home side.

Both teams trading frees in the opening ten minutes and when Andrew Coyle received a cross field ball he calmly slotted the ball to the net to give the away side a three point lead. Ballinlough responded with a point of their own but this was cancelled out from the hard working Padraig O'Hanrahan who slotted over from play. A second Gavin Coyle free put his side four in front but Ballinlough finished the half stronger and reduced the deficit to two points and they probably felt that they should have been in front as they created more chances than Curraha.

With the slight wind advantage at their backs Ballinlough kicked five unanswered points inside the opening ten minutes and a Coyle free steadied the ship for Curraha who gradually started to get back into the game. Both teams traded scores with Evan McGovern scoring from outside the D with a well taken effort but from the resulting kick out Ballinlough stormed up the field and raised a green flag to hold a five point advantage. Curraha never gave up and had the deficit reduced to two straight away with back to back points from Coyle but that would be their last score as Ballinlough saw out the victory with two further points.
