FL Div 3: Oldcastle regain bragging rights

April 04, 2017

Joseph Blake - St Brigids

St Brigids 0-8 Oldcastle 0-14

Oldcastle came out on top in this Division 3 League game at Ballinacree to regain the bragging rights after loosing the corresponding game last year at Milbrook.

St Brigids opened the first half very brightly and an early attack saw A J Gilsnean miss narrowly but this was quickly followed by an excellent point from Peter Moore supplied by A J Gilsnean.

Oldcastle responded with a well taken 45 from former county man Conor McHugh while another former county man Paddy Gilsnean tapped a point over to put the Town team into an early lead.

The Brigids were well in the game and good defensive play from Dylan Scully, Philip Tuite, Conor Farrelly and Michael Flood along with the hard working Mitch Briody and Arron Kiernan supplied plenty of good ball into the attack which resulted in excellent points from Michael Flood, A J Gilsenan and 3 pointed frees from the roving Joseph Blake.

Oldcastle kept in touch with three points an outstanding save from Dylan Scully in goal gave the Ballinacree side the advantage 0-6 to 0-5 going into the break.

The Oldcastle team talk at half time had the desired effect as they took control of the middle third of the field. This gave the Gilsenan brothers Paddy and Owen along with Jason Scully and Connor Delaney among others the platform for some excellent scores to put the winners into a commanding lead.

The Brigids were guilty of giving away easy ball and it was not until the 23rd minute that they registered their first score of the half from a Joseph Blake. The home side dug deep and Conor McHugh was forced in to excellent saves from Dylan Tighe and Pauric Plunkett.

Blake was on target again with a pointed free to finish out the Brigids scoring. The Ballinacree side can have no complaints as Oldcastle were the better team but they can take heart from a hard fought battle with there neighbours.
