Fiachra Ward scored 2-2 in the opening half as Wolfe Tones eased to a hoganstand.com SFC Group A win over Moynalvey at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.

The similarity in colours was not reflected on scoreboard after Ward netted his brace to leave it 2-1 to 0-1 after 16 minutes.

Gordon Ward's men finished with eight different scorers. They didn't need any scoring contribution after the break from their top marksman on the night.

Six different players registered for Wolfe Tones after the change of end. They outscored Moynalvey by 0-8 to 0-5 in the second-half

Cian Ward didn't start for the 'Tones while Mark and Cian O'Sullivan were absent from the Moynalvey line out.

Wolfe Tones might have had a third goal but Fiachra Ward's 54th minute fisted effort - from Alan Callaghan's cross - crashed against the crossbar.

Wolfe Tones second highest scorer Thomas O'Reilly completed his tally from a free before Moynalvey's main marksman David McLoughlin brought his total to 0-5 with two late scores.

Wolfe Tones faced breeze in first half during which they were never headed while the teams were tied just once.

Moynalvey wing-back David Reilly cancelled out Thomas O'Reilly's opener for the 'Tones with a magnificent effort from the open terrace side into the town goal.

Having provided the assist for his side's opening score, Fiachra Ward got on the end of Eoghan Harrington's delivery to fire home the opening goal and it was 1-1 to 0-1 after nine minutes.

The next score arrived at the start of the second quarter, another Fiachra Ward goal from close range after Eanna Harrington's effort was blocked.

Wolfe Tones added four points on the bounce with Fiachra Ward (two), Thomas O'Reilly and corner-back David Coleman registering.

That left it 2-5 to 0-1 after 23 minutes. Daniel McLoughlin pulled back a trio of points (one free - the only such score of the first-half) to leave seven between the sides at the break.
