Sean Heavey will captain the Meath senior hurlers for 2015. The Kildalkey clubman takes over from Stephen Clynch.
In the absence of Clynch, Heavey led Meath to Kehoe Cup success early last year. The Royals under the management of Cillian Farrell defeated Kildare in that final 1-21 to 0-19 after extra time. Speaking to Royal County Meath Yearbook Heavey said: 'I was very surprised to be asked to be captain. It was a great honour for me. I wouldn't be much of a talker when it comes to before games. I kind of leave that up to other lads. I really enjoyed it. I have to say, it was definitely a privilege because in fairness they are a good bunch of lads."
Meath get their 2015 season underway this Sunday with the first round of the Kehoe Cup against St Pats-Mater Dei in Pairc Tailteann at 12.15pm. The match is a curtain raiser to the Meath versus Dublin O'Byrne Cup semi-final.
It also marks the first outing for new manager Martin Ennis and his selectors Kevin Dowd and John Andrews.
